Hot News: Dickey Betts Rocks 2006 Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp
Posted on Jul 14, 2006 - 10:48 AM by adamspero
This year, Dickey Betts will rock at the 2006 Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp! Dickey will be on hand for all of the camp closing festivities in a special appearance on Thursday, August 17. Mr. Betts will be on hand with the campers as they take a trip through the recording studio, will participate in a special Q&A with the campers at BB King's, and, most importantly, perform with the six bands that evening as they battle for top honors!

ROCK ‘N ROLL FANTASY CAMP FULFILLS MUSICAL DREAMS AND A WHOLE LOT MORE

Live the Fantasy as Rock Legends Push Campers to New Musical Heights

Dreams do come true. At least they do for those who attend Rock ’n Roll Fantasy Camp. For anyone who has practiced in a basement with dreams of playing in a heart-thumping band before screaming fans, RRFC represents the ultimate fantasy. Over the course of five days, RRFC promises to turn you into a rock star and have you performing live on stage with your musical idols. The brainchild of music producer David Fishof, RRFC offers novice and expert alike the chance to play alongside of such renowned rockers as Jon Anderson, Dickey Betts, Dr. John, Max Weinberg, Joe Satriani, Levon Helm, Mark Farner, Dee Snider and George Thorogood.

In fact, the high-energy camps have proved so popular that nearly 40 percent of participants are repeat customers. At the last sold-out camp in February 2006, die-hard fans harboring dreams of rock stardom got the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of performing at the House of Blues with The Who’s legendary front man Roger Daltrey. As returning camper Mark Province explains: “Life doesn't get much cooler than that.”

For the price of a normal week’s vacation, participants at RRFC go on an extraordinary odyssey, and for some, change their lives forever. Michael Diesch, a computer software executive, came to the camp with his best friend Dave. “He had lost two of his kids a few years before and was obviously having a hard time with life,” Deisch explains. “The camp was a turning point for him and I believe that this experience helped him realize that there was so much more life to live. I cannot explain how much he has changed in the last year, as there were times in the past that I didn't think he would make it. I don't think that you can get much more life altering than that.”

As much as campers learn about music and have a rip-roaring good time in the process, the five days at RRFC also teaches them about teamwork and collaboration, striving for excellence, and leadership. Entrepreneur Dan Wise says the RRFC experience has provided important lessons that he’s been able to apply in his personal and business life. “My fantasy has translated into some valuable insight for my reality,” he states.

But it’s not just the campers who reap the benefits. For the visiting rock stars, RRFC is a way to give back to their fans. “I think I get more out of Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy Camp than they do,” comments Joe Lynn Turner of Deep Purple, “because it reestablishes and reaffirms my own beginnings and gives me perspective.”

With respected music industry pros as their mentors, campers who were strangers on day one become a rocking band by day five, performing at a foot-stomping, hand-clapping, get-your-groove-on concert. At the August RRFC, the bands formed at camp have the unforgettable opportunity to take the stage alongside Jon Anderson (Yes) and Dickey Betts (The Allman Brothers) for a live Battle of the Bands in front of an enthusiastic live audience at B.B. King's in Times Square.

Campers also compete in a live on the air Original Song Contest at Sirius Satellite Radio’s studios; perform on VH1 Classic with Dee Snider; and lay down tracks at the same studio where Bruce Springsteen, John Lennon and The Rolling Stones have recorded.

“There’s nothing like this kind of live experience to give your confidence a jolt of adrenaline,” says Fishof. “People come out of their shell, they learn how to create and be part of a team. We get calls all the time about how people’s lives have dramatically.”

As a sports and entertainment producer and agent for the past 25 years, Fishof is responsible for the Ringo Starr All Starr Band and The Monkees reunion tour, among other musical enterprises. “Surprising as it may seem, these big rock stars really relate to the fans. They know what it’s like to have a dream.” And, with plans for expansion to Europe, Asia and Australia, Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy Camp continues to ramp up the experience and excitement.
